TWO detainees who escaped from the Mabolo Police Station detention cell were recaptured after a hot-pursuit operation yesterday morning.

Jaymark Rosario and Ramil Berden were recaptured in Lapu-Lapu City at 6 a.m. yesterday after they managed to escape from their detention cell at dawn through a hole they made on the plywood ceiling of their cell.

Rosario, who is from North Cotabato, said he tried to escape because he wanted to go back to his family in Lapu-Lapu City.

Mouli unta ko sa amoa, sir, kay ako man ang nagpaskwela sa akong tulo ka anak, sir (I would have wanted to go home, sir, because I’m the one sending my three children to school),” Rosario said.

Rosario asked forgiveness from the police for doing the act. Rosario, a security guard of a pawnshop in Barangay Apas, Cebu City, was arrested for qualified theft. He was caught by the CCTV camera allegedly stealing a diamond ring worth P12,000 while on duty.

Berden, on the other hand, was arrested for possession of illegal drugs.
Mabolo police chief Senior Insp. Homobono Sayon said they would investigate the police personnel on duty to determine whether or not they have liability for the incident.

But Sayon said they would also consider the efforts done by the police on duty to recapture the escaped detainees. /UP Cebu Intern Patrick Byron Gattoc and USJ-R Intern Rabboni Borbon
