Colorum tricycles in Lapu to be apprehended

By: Norman V. Mendoza July 15,2016 - 11:00 PM

THE Lapu-Lapu City Traffic Management System (CTMS) has started its crackdown on colorum or undocumented passenger tricycles and public utility jeepneys plying the city routes.

Frank Brazil, CTMS head, said they started conducting this operation after they received complaints about these colorum vehicles from tricycle and jeepney operators who have franchises for their vehicles.

Brazil also said that they also noted an increase in vehicular accidents involving colorum vehicles, leaving injured passengers without insurance to fall back on for the treatment of their injuries.

Brazil said these complaints had reached the Office of the City Mayor prompting Mayor Paz Radaza to order the crackdown on these undocumented vehicles.

Brazil said they, however, planned to go full blast on their crackdown after the impounding area in Barangay Gun-ob would be completed by next week.

Brazil said in a phone interview that a survey they conducted on the tricycles plying routes in the city and found out that there 4,000 tricycles plying routes in the city and yet the city had only allotted 3,000 franchises for tricycles.

He said they would go after these 1,000 undocumented tricycles when they go full blast with their campaign.

Brazil yesterday called on these undocumented or colorum tricycles and passenger jeepneys to get franchises for their vehicles or stop using these vehicles.
