WITH THE brand new season of the Cesafi just a few weeks away, the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers continue to go hard with their preparations as they fell to the powerhouse Hazard Norte, 93-102, in the 67th Araw ng Ipil Mayor’s Cup Invitational Tournament at the University of Zamboanga Gym in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Former pro and ex-Southwestern University guard Eliud Poligrates was a one-man wrecking crew as he manhandled his defenders and tuned them up for a whopping 45 points.
Former Green Lancer Wowie Escosio also paid back his alma mater with a 29-point outing that dropped UV to 1-2 (win-loss) in the team standings.
UV skipper Josue Segumpan led the Lancers with 23 points while Jerome Napao added 11.
The loss was a bitter pill to swallow for the Lancers, especially after they fell to Sindangan, 72-80, earlier.
In that match, UV got torched by Jeff Morial, who piled on 21 points, and reigning Cesafi MVP Shooster Olago, who added 17.
Rey Suerte led UV in that match with 13 while Tristan Albina chipped in 10.
