Sacred Heart School Ateneo de Cebu Alumni Batch ’92 To Partner with Benedicto College-TechVoc School For a Scholarship Program

THE alumni of Sacred Heart School Ateneo de Cebu batch 1992 commenced one of their biggest community outreach programs at the Benedicto College on July 12. The said program is a scholarship grant that they are organizing in partnership with the Benedicto College Technical Vocational School.

This is in preparation for the Silver Jubilee Year celebration of their batch and a feast to honor their patron saint, St. Ignatius of Loyola.

The grantors of the said scholarship program is currently taking its first fifty beneficiaries. The beneficiaries will be free to choose among the roster of courses available at the TechVoc program of Benedicto College. They will be given Php 5,000 student assistance fund each, but the amount may vary as it will be contingent to the training fee of the chosen course.

To qualify as a beneficiary, one must be 18 years old and above with a secondary degree. The students must also take TESDA NC1 and NC2 examination. The less privileged applicants will be prioritized so as to actualize the benefactors’ vision of helping the poor sector of the community.

The scholarship program will be a continuing project of the batch, so they might take in more applicants after its first batch of grantees. The Benedicto College Administration headed by Ms. Joey del Socorro – Cortes is more than happy to accommodate the scholars and be a part of the program.

“We have lower rates than other TechVoc schools and the quality of education the students are getting here is guaranteed topnotch”, Cortes said.

The alumni of batch ‘92 came up with the idea as they were inspired by the example of St. Ignatius Loyola and the humble life he has led. They are certainly hoping for a successful outcome that they are looking forward to share with the rest of the alumni during the homecoming celebration in their Alma Mater next year.

“When our beneficiaries finish the program, hopefully, and will be successful in the careers they have chosen, we will be sharing their success stories so that other alumni batches will be inspired to follow our lead”, said Erickson Ong, president of Batch ‘92. “Our resources are limited as it relies on everyone’s contributions from our batch, so this is a really big challenge for us and one that we’re hoping to overcome”, Ong added.

For anyone interested to avail of the scholarship, you may contact Ms. Joey Cortes at 344-9320, or you may visit their office at Benedicto College located at Benedicto, A.S Fortuna, Mandaue City. /Reyna Cadiz
