A PASSENGER vessel bound to Cagayan de Oro from Cebu City returned to the Cebu port last Friday evening after it experienced engine trouble off the waters of the City of Naga in southern Cebu.

Commander Agapito Bibat , chief of Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Cebu Station, said that MV Trans Asia 10 bound for Cagayan encountered a problem on the main bearing of its engine.

“They need to go back for safety purposes. They noticed there was a problem when they reached Naga,” Bibat told Cebu Daily News.

MV Trans Asia 10 reached Pier 5 at 12:36 a.m. on Saturday. All 690 passengers and 63 crew on board were all safe.

The ship captain identified as Norman Robles is also asked to submit its marine protest to explain what happened.

“They cannot sail unless they will repair the engine,” Bibat told Cebu Daily News.

The vessel also needed to be inspected by the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina-7) to determine whether if it’s seaworthy or not.

As of 6 p.m. yesterday, MV Trans Asia 10 was at Pier 5 in Cebu City.
