The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) were holding a meeting with tourism officials on Saturday morning to discuss Cebu’s security situation in the wake of the travel advisory issued by the United States Embassy.

Lt. General Raul del Rosario, Armed Forces Central Command chief, said the military were working closely with the PNP to beef up security in the province after the US Embassy in Manila warned its citizens against traveling to southern Cebu to avoid being kidnapped by terrorist groups.

“We are also coordinating with Army and Navy forces in Northern Mindanao to deter terrorists from area,” Del Rosario said.

They would continue to gather information on terrorist threats in southern Cebu as well as implementing security measures until they were confident that Cebu was safe and pushed the US Embassy in Manila to retract travel advisory.

Also present in the meeting were Department of Tourism Central Visayas officer-in-charge Judy Gabato , Cebu Provincial Tourism Officer Boboi Costas and Chief Supt. Noli Taliño, Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) director.
