Coming off a 102-point victory, Mandaue City scored yet another lopsided win after it massacred Pilar, 157-50, last Friday night in the North Division Bracket 1 of the 2017 Cebu Governor’s Cup 21-Under Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament at the Compostela Municipal Gym in Compostela town, northern Cebu.
The resounding victory put Mandaue a game away from clinching a quarterfinal seat as it improved to 3-0 (win-loss) after getting a stirring follow-up of 138-36 trashing of Tudela last April 29 in Tudela, Camotes.
Ken Gato set the tone of the lopsided match when unloaded 10 of his 27 points in the first period where Mandaue erected a 32-15 edge.
Froilan Mangubat joined the fray for Mandaue when he fired 10 points in the second quarter, allowing Mandaue to further break the game wide open at the half, 59-27.
Behind Gato and Mardy Paul Soco, Mandaue ended the third with a whopping 101-39 before setting a league-record for most points in a quarter when it produced 56 points in the final period.
Mangubat top scored for Mandaue with 33 points, Damolo added 22 points, Soco contributed 15 points, Jancork Cabahug and Alje Mendez donated 12 points, while Steven Mendoza chipped in 10.
Justine Jim Rivera tallied 18 points, John Edison Talle delivered 11 and Haines Ivan Lee Pepito pitched in 10 for Pilar, which stayed winless after four games.
In the other game, Consolacion Sarok snatched its first in three games by escaping Liloan, 78-74.
Patrick Wilson Yu paced Consolacion with 20 points, Froiland Maglasang donated 16 and Emmanuel Villamor had 14 .
Airam Sam Cantillas finished with 20 markers, Christopher John Catipay had 15 while Arian Sasing and Francis Mark Comendador netted 11 each for Liloan, which stumbled after a 2-0 start.
Compostela, on the other hand, shone bright in its home floor as remained unbeaten in three outings after routing Tudela, 95-50.
Frances Ryan Romeral, Kier Niño Rodriguez and Ferdinand Calo led Compostela by scoring 11 points apiece, while Kherlie Pino added 10.
Tudela, which dropped to 1-3, got 18 points from John Ivy Ostria.
Games in the South Division Bracket 1 at the Sibonga Municipal Gym saw Minglanilla (4-1) dumped the host team (0-5), 85-64, and Argao (2-2) tripping Naga City (1-3), 59-53.
