Gullas satisfied with Duterte’s performance

By: John Michael Aroa July 23,2018 - 02:18 PM

Talisay City Mayor Eduardo Gullas said that he is satisfied with the performance of President Rodrigo Duterte especially with his campaign against illegal drugs.

Gullas added that other major accomplishments of the Duterte include the president’s efforts to ensure peace and order in the country and eliminate corruption especially among goverment officials.

“He (Duterte) is doing his very best as a president. The local officials, mayors, congressmen and senators are fully supporting our president,” Gullas said.

But Gullas expressed his opposition on a proposal by House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, a Duterte ally, to postpone the May 2019 midterm election so that congress will have more time to deliberate on the proposed shift in the country’s system of government to federalism.

Gullas said that the people should be given the chance to vote for their choice of political leaders.

“Election should be held as regularly as possible and the people should be given a chance to judge their leaders. If there is no election, the people has no chance to excercise their power to vote,” Gullas said.

Still, he assured the president of his full for his federalism plans saying that this will surely benefit the Local Government Units.

“The Federalism is good. But when you postpone the election to give time to discussions on federalism that is not good”. Gullas said.
