THE UNIVERSITY of the Visayas’ (UV) Passerelle and SBP squads suffered contrasting fates at the start of the Cebu leg of the 33rd Milo-backed Twin Tournament last Saturday at the Ateneo de Cebu basketball courts along Mango Avenue.
While its Passerelle squad handily beat the Cebu Eastern College, 50-28, its SBP squad was upset by Ateneo de Cebu, 29-31.
Playing true to form, UV’s Passerelle team clamped down on defense and held CEC to just 13 points in the first three periods to establish a huge 48-13 lead heading to the last canto.
Ronan Madanguit led UV in scoring with 10 points.
UV’s SBP squad, however, was not as fortunate as free throws by Rodolfo Maglasang and Dylan Lim in the game’s deciding moments proved to be the difference in the loss.
In other Passerelle matches, the SHS-Ateneo Magis clobbered SMS-Boystown, 63-23, in a sterling performance that saw them hold down the latter to a mere point in the first canto, en route to establishing an 18-1 lead.
The SHS-Ateneo Lux Oriens were also victorious, edging Don Bosco, 39-37, behind a game-winning bucket by John Carlo Ceniza.
