Prayer vs violence

THE Commission on the Laity of the Archdiocese of Cebu will launch a prayer drive on Saturday, August 18, to call for the stop of violence in Cebu.

The prayer drive will be carried out by the Cebu Archdiocesan Network of Intercessors (CANI), a network of prayer warriors composed of lay organization leaders.

“During the monthly assembly of the lay organization leaders on Saturday, we will be giving a talk on spiritual warfare in order to spread our prayers to restore peace,” said Fe Barino, chairperson of the commission.

Barino said they had requested Archbishop Jose Palma to issue an oratio imperata to be prayed in all the masses in the archdiocese.

“Prayers are more powerful than any weapon. That is why we are making this initiative because we cannot also involve ourselves in the actual warfare,” Barino said.

“We had requested Archbishop Palma to issue an oratio imperata in response to these killings and I think the prayer will be out within the week. We will launch the saying of the prayer on Saturday,” she added.

Barino said the spate of killings is appalling especially that most cases remained unsolved.

She also said all victims of the killings should be given justice regardless if they had been engaged in wrong deeds.

On Sunday, activist priest Fr. Robert Reyes also called on the Church to make a stand to stop the killings.

Reyes, who has been involved in the campaign against alleged extra judicial killings, also accused new policemen assigned in Cebu as the ones tasked to do the killings.
