Fiel tops October edition of Cepca monthly chess
PERCIVAL Fiel had to rely on his accumulated tie break points before clinching the October title of the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) monthly tournament last Sunday at the Barracks Chess Club at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu.
Fiel and eventual second placer Cecilio Aberion both finished with 4.0 points. Fiel had a 10.5 tie break score while Aberion only had 9.5 to drop to second.
The Senior Ecosystem management specialist Fiel of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) beat Jun Pasion in the first round, Roberto Inocian in the second round but his winning streak was snapped in the third round when he lost to Norman Olayvar. He won his last two games versus Jun Kidlat and John Velarde.
Rounding off the top three wood pushers in the tournament was Velarde, who scored 3.5 points.
Other monthly champions are Eduardo Dela Torre (January), Mario Bustillo (February), Rogelio Enriquez Jr. (March), Joselito Loques (April), Zilverstein Torres (May), Salazar (June), Arnolito Cadiz (July), Neal Amores (August), and Richard Ouano (September).
