GlobalPort struggles to beat Tagoloan, 81-73
Following a coaching change and a minor tweaking of personnel, the GlobalPort Batang Pier is a team that is still a work in progress.
GlobalPort’s lack of chemistry was exposed when they struggled to beat the Tagoloan Tigers, 81-73, Saturday night in the 2014 Cebu City Charter Day Cup at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.
Coming off a 79-87 loss to Alaska, the Batang Pier actually were in control for the large part of the game but were heavily threatened when the Tigers staged a big run the fourth.
The Van Halen Parmis-coached Tigers fired 12 unanswered points that saw them rallying to within 71-77 in the final 2:50.
Tagoloan had several chances of inching closer further but missed to convert in crucial plays, allowing the Batang Piere to escape with the win.
“Third scrimmage pa lang namin ngayon kaya medyo nabigla kami. Mara mi pang dapat ayusin defensively and offensively,” said newly installed GlobalPort coach Pido Jarencio.
