Rotarians, Japan give to CCMC

Donations continue to pour in from local and foreign donors who want to help fund the building of the new Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) building.

Rotary District 3860 Gov. Ed Chiongbian handed over their P1 million (P440,000) donation to Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama.

“We have been doing a lot of relief missions in Cebu.  Today we are giving canned goods for the Lorega fire victims.  We also want to help make sure that CCMC is built,” he told Rama during a visit to the Mayor’s Office yesterday morning.

Last Friday, Rama also received a donation of 1 million yen (P440,000) from a Japanese group. “If we look at (the cost of the reconstruction project), it’s difficult because we are talking of a billion. It’s always overwhelming but it can be done,” Rama told the Rotarians.

Before the donations came in, the city government had so far raised about P13 million.

COMMITMENT

Rama said there is still the commitment of a P100-million donation from Operation Smile.

Cebu City needs to raise close to P1 billion to build the proposed 10-story building.

Demolition of the existing hospital structure will be completed next month.

Bidding for the first phase of the project will be in April, and construction will start before the year ends.
