Labella: Cebu City to help secure Sunday’s Pasigarbo sa Sugbu

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella has assured the public of a safe staging of the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo on Sunday, August 25, at the Cebu City Sports Complex.
Labella said he already coordinated with Police Colonel Gemma Vinluan, chief of the Cebu City Police, to finalize the festival’s security plans to ensure the safety of spectators and members of the different delegations coming from the 44 towns and cities in Cebu province.

While Cebu City is independent from the provincial government being a highly urbanized city, Labella said that the city government is glad to host this year’s celebration. Pasigarbo sa Sugbu that is referred to as the “festival of all festivals” showcases the culture and uniqueness of the different localities here.
The festival used to be staged at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) grounds in Mandaue City before it was temporarily suspended in 2012.
“This is such a big event and the City Government will give its full support. This is the event of the Province but considering that it will be held in the city, we will assist them in whatever means we can be of help,” he said.

Labella said that he assigned Councilor Dave Tumulak as focal point person of the Pasigarbo sa Sugbu security preparations.
Tumulak is scheduled to meet with police officials in Cebu City and Cebu Province today, August 22, to finalize the Pasigarbo’s security and traffic plans and the deployment of emergency personnel and vehicles among other concerns.
During their meeting, Tumulak said that he wanted to especially find out what other assistance Cebu City can extend to Pasigabro organizers especially since the city government also co-organizes the annual Sinulog grand parade that is attended by millions of spectators. | dcb
