Vince Rojo took advantage of the absence of chief rival Jette Calderon, to earn major points and gain headway in the race for the Karter of the Year crown after he won the KT 100 title in the third leg of the 2014 Kartzone Superkart Series held last Sunday at the Kartzone Racing Circuit in Barangay Panagdait.
With Calderon opting to compete in Manila, Rojo took the opportunity to shine and capped off his dominant run by winning the 25-lap final heat in 11 minutes, 53.659 seconds, less than a second ahead of second placer and sibling, Joseph Rojo, who timed 11:54.141. Sean Velasco completed the podium finishers by taking third place with a time of 11:56.071.
According to race organizer Kim Limgenco, Vince weathered several aggressive challenges from his brother who took the lead for a few laps.
However, Vince’s relentless driving led him to the win against Joseph, who is making his own comeback in the circuit after missing the final race last season.
In other results, Frederick Cortes topped the Formula Honda class after beating out Lord Seno and Norris See by a wide margin. Cortes finished the race in 13:09.917, six seconds ahead of Seno and See who logged in nearly identical times.
In the SQ Cadet class, Keon Romoff ran away with the crown in 6:11.657, nearly 10 seconds ahead of second placer Seven Aleman. Khaz Romoff rounded out the podium finishers in third place.
