A three-year-old girl from Barangay Paknaan, Mandaue City needs significant financial assistance to boost her fight against cancer through her ongoing chemotherapy treatment.
Mary Louisse Marino was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) last November 29, 2019. Four days before her diagnosis, she experienced alarming symptoms like fever, body weakness, unusual paleness, and abdominal pain. These manifestations prompted her parents to bring her to a hospital for proper medical care. A complete blood count was done and it showed decreased red blood cell and platelet count. She was then given a blood transfusion. A differential count was also done and it revealed presence of blast cells. A bone marrow aspiration was then performed and the result confirmed her diagnosis. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia is a type of cancer of the blood which commonly affects children. This debilitating disease is characterized by the increased production of immature lymphocytes which is a type of white blood cell. If treated promptly with intensive chemotherapy, statistics have shown that children have a good chance for a cure. But this disease can progress rapidly and is fatal to the child’s life when it is left untreated.
Mary Louisse’s first dose of chemotherapy was then administered following her diagnosis. Her attending hematologist-oncologist prescribed a three-year treatment protocol that outlined the needed yet costly medications and medical procedures for her chemotherapeutic regimen. Currently, she needs around P19,000 every month for her maintenance chemotherapy sessions.
Mary Louisse is the eldest of the two siblings in the family. She is described by her parents as a hopeful and resilient girl. She also loves to learn new things as evidenced by her desire to go to school even at a young age. Her parents are both production workers whose combined income is barely enough to provide for their growing family. Indeed, their financial capacity is very limited compared to the huge cost of hospitalizations, medications, and procedures of Mary Louisse’s chemotherapy treatment. Hence, her parents are humbly appealing to kind-hearted and generous individuals for financial assistance to help save the life of their dearest child.
