DALAGUETE, Cebu—Cebu is expected to experience rainy weather due to the extension of a low-pressure area (LPA) spotted 465 kilometers east of General Santos City in Mindanao as of 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2021.

Mark Gales, meteorologist of Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa)-Mactan station, said the weather disturbance may affect the whole Visayas until the weekend.

“Naa tay ginamonitor nga LPA naa ron sa silangan sa Gensan ang sentro. Ang extension sa LPA mao ang nag-cause sa ulan diri sa Visayas,” Gales said.

(We’re monitoring a low pressure area east of General Santos. The extension of the LPA is what is causing the rains here in the Visayas.)

Pagasa-Mactan has issued a Yellow Warning Level over  the provinces of Leyte, Southern Leyte, Biliran, Samar;, EasternSamar, and Cebu (Northern Cebu and Metro Cebu) as of  its 8 a.m. weather bulletin.

Cloudy skies with light to moderate with occasional heavy rains and thunderstorms will likely last in all parts of Cebu for the next 24 hours, Gales confirmed.

As of 10:24 a.m. today, the  temperature over Metro Cebu is recorded at  24.8 degrees Celsius with a 26-degree heat index.

Cebuanos living in low-lying areas are advised to remain vigilant for possible landslides and to monitor Pagasa’s weather updates.
