MANDAUE CITY, Philippines — The Mandaue City government has started tonight the Mandaue Tara Shots Sa Gabi-i, a night shift vaccination for individuals who belong to the A4 category at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.

The night shift vaccination will be conducted every Friday that will start from 4:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m at the city’s Cultural and Sports Complex.

Dr. Ligaya Lakambini Dargantes, head of the patient care and management team of the City’s Emergency Operations Center and deputy chief of the Vaccine Operation Center, said there were about 270 applicants most of them were second dosers for AstraZeneca and this was the only amount of vaccines they allocated for this evening.

Dargantes said that aside from the usual vaccination online registration, individuals would also need to apply online through the link and follow the process attached to the VOC’s Facebook Page.

Dargantes said as this was still a dry run and that their vaccination teams were skilled and were already used with vaccination, they would only deploy one vaccination team.

Usually a vaccination team can vaccinate at least 100 individuals per shift.

Dargantes said the Mandaue Tara Shots sa Gabi-i would aim to cater to individuals who would want to be vaccinated against COVID-19 but could not take a day off from work.

“Para siya sa kana bitaw’ng demand sa atoang mga vaccinees ba nga working especially the working class,” she said.

(This is for the demand of working vaccinees especially those from the working class.)

“Mao bitaw na nga saputon sila nga kanang mang leave sila ingun ana, dayun dili sila maka walk-in if makawalk-in man gale usahay mabalibaran sila labi na kung daghan gyud kaayo ang atoang gi schedule,” Dargantes said.

(That is why that others will be angry if they file a leave then they cannot be accommodated as a walk-in or if they will be allowed to walk-in, but, sometimes, they will not be accommodated because there are many vaccinees scheduled.)

“Mao na siya we decided nga mag open na lang gyud og night shift pero trial pa ni siya namo. We are not sure yet if hopefully, we can do this again next week. Ang limitation lang gyud namo is ang staffing so nag made available naman siya over the weekend” said Dargantes.

(That is why we decided to open a night shift, but this is just a trial. We are not sure yet if hopefully, we can do this again next week. Our limitation is the staffing but there are available staff over the weekend.)

She said this could also somehow decongest the city’s five vaccination sites.

This could also increase the number of vaccinees everyday though they already reached the target 5,000 individuals a day including the city’s Project Balik Buhay vaccination.

Subangdaku Barangay Captain Ernie Manatad, president of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) and chairman of Mandaue City’s Vaccine Board, said the city had already vaccinated about 240,000 individuals about 50,000 away from its target 295,000 individuals to achieve herd immunity.
