Barangay officials to get cash windfall
IF you see your barangay official grinning from ear to ear at Cebu City Hall one of these days, it’s probably because he has received his allowance from City Hall.
OIC City Treasurer Diwa Cuevas yesterday announced that City Hall is now ready to release the allowances of barangay officials for October and November.
Barangay captains will get P5,000 per month while barangay councilmen, secretaries and treasurers will receive P3,000 monthly. The officials however, will not get the full amount. The taxman will get a 10 percent share of the cash windfall.
“Bisan karong adlawa pwede na nato ma-release and financial assistance,” Cuevas said. (We can release the financial assistance even today.)
The mayor’s office will announce the schedule on when officials can collect their allowances.
Cuevas said the allowances for December will be released early next year as state fiscal regulations require local finance officials to wait for the month to end before disbursing the allowances due for the said period.
The OIC city treasurer moreover, said they will have to seek clarification if officials who assumed office in Dec. 1 are already qualified to receive such allowance.
