Cebu City’s weighlifters continue to pile up gold medals and meet records in the ongoing 2014 Batang Pinoy National Finals at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
Pasil Elementary School’s Evangelito Dale Ceniza Jr. logged new Batang Pinoy records in weightlifting with golden performances in the 50-kilogram Boys division.
His records, however, are yet to be collated by delegation officials.
Leonida Cambarijan of Mabolo Elementary School for her part, won two golds in weightlifting by topping the 38kg Girls competition.
Meanwhile, after the city’s karatekas sizzled on Thursday, Cebu City archers hit the bullseye yesterday by capturing six gold medals.
Still fresh from their conquest of the Batang Pinoy 2014 Visayas Qualifying Leg in Kalibo, Aklan last October, where they won 13 golds, 12 silvers and 13 bronzes, the Cebu City archery team looks poised to rule the event with sizzling performances yesterday.
The Divine Angels Learning Development School’s Justine Abella and Khalin Alyx Abella led the Cebuano winners by winning golds in the boys and girls divisions, respectively.
Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles Kaine Lorenzo Casquejo and Sebastian Alex Blanco also added golds to the Niños cause while top archers from Gothong Memorial High School, Roselle Amamag and Chinna
Garcia completed the cast of gold medal winners from the Cebu City delegation.
The boys archery team also won a silver, while the girls squad garnered a bronze in the team events.
Arnis and Muay Thai also delivered golds last Dec. 12, 2014ñ.
Kim Caniga topped the Muay Thai Waikru event while Mary Claire Ybarita of Duterte NHS pocketed the gold in arnis’ Labanan Combat category.
In athletics, the foursome of University of Cebu’s Jerald Tabar and Jun Mitchell Dawa, USC’s Seith Pilapil and Mike Lopez of Abellana National High School romped off to a golden finish in boys 4×100-meter relay.
Lopez was later crowned the meet’s Sprint King when he ruled the 100-meter dash.
The other medalists from weightlifting are Princess Gale Tirol of Mabolo (silver), UC’s Bernadette Gaviola (bronze in the 62-kgs.) and John Dexter Tabique (bronze in the boys 56-kgs.
