Suspension of docs, nurses sought

January 27,2015 - 11:59 AM

The lawyer of the former overseas worker whose wife died at the Mandaue City Hospital 30 minutes after she was admitted is seeking  the suspension of the members of the  medical staff who attended to her.

Inocencio dela Cruz, lawyer of Cesar Coliflores also called on Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, the Department of Health (DOH) and the city’s management to conduct an administrative inquiry into the incident.

“Dili na maki-angayon (It’s not right) for them to investigate without informing my client to be there. I also call for the preventive suspension of the two doctors and three nurses who attended to my client’s wife,” dela Cerna said.

Mandaue City Hall’s legal office started its fact-finding investigation into the death of an overseas worker’s wife 30 minutes after she was admitted at the Mandaue City Hospital.

“It’s preliminary, not yet a formal investigation. It’s a fact finding inquiry based on the available documents, the medical chart, and the hospital incident report.  We want to know the truth about the incident,” City Administrator James Abadia said.

Abadia said results of the preliminary investigation could lead to an administrative investigation that would impose sanctions on those responsible for the death of Jocelyn Coliflores, wife of Cesar Coliflores.

The criminal aspect will be dealt with separately, he said.

Cesar recounted to Cebu Daily News that his wife was initially brought to the Ignacio Cortes Hospital due to her recurring fever.

She was later transferred to the Mandaue City Hospital where the attending doctor administered four vials of medicine to her even if she had yet to undergo tests.

Jocelyn later became hysterical and told her son to take a video of her screaming inside her room.

Cautious
She said she felt like she was dying due to the medicines administered to her.

Hospital personnel prevented her from leaving the hospital and 30 minutes after being admitted, she died.

Dela Cerna said Mandaue City officials should also be cautious about  making media statements on the status of their preliminary investigation.

Abadia said Mandaue City Hall officials want to  ensure that justice is  served to the Coliflores family.

Abadia said the city government will include the Coliflores family in their investigation “so we can get the whole picture.”

Dela Cerna said he is collecting data to substantiate the charges leveled at the two doctors and three nurses.
