MARK Bukiron scored almost half of his team’s total output in a scintillating offensive display that powered defending champion Batch 1999-BMC Hospital Systems/Hainanese Delights to a high-scoring 105-101 win over Batch 2003-Dimsum Frito last Saturday in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 14th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC Gym.
Bukiron produced by far the most points scored by a player this season with his 52-point explosion, helping Batch ‘99 pick up its second victory in as many starts.
Last season’s Finals MVP also added six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Batch ‘99 is now on a 21-game winning streak dating back to the previous season where it won all of its 19 games en route to copping the championship trophy.
Albert Uy provided Bukiron the needed support by scoring 25 markers, while Clint Melliza added 11 points. Reigning MVP Earn Saguindel pitched in 11 assists, seven rebounds, three points and a steal.
Ruben Yap failed to buy a single point but made his presence felt for Batch ‘99 by grabbing 12 rebounds, dishing off eight assists and getting one steal.
Batch 2003 still couldn’t enter the win column, tasting a second straight defeat despite drawing 21 points apiece from Calvin Ang, Ferdinan Lague and Gwynn Uy.
Earning a piece of the early lead in the standings was Batch 1997-Solane iStyle, which likewise pocketed its second straight win via a 73-52 drubbing of Batch ‘87/2000-Vancere Toys.
Bryan Labus hit three triples in the fourth and finished with 12 points for Batch ‘97, while Aubrey Jones Ibones and Tan each added 11 markers.
It was a balanced attack for Batch ‘97 as Ryan Maderazo, Denver Dano, Percival Sy Lee and Vincent Sy netted at least seven points each.
