Signal No. 1 up in Batanes due to Hanna; Habagat to bring rains in NCR
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 in Batanes on Saturday.
This is due to the effects of Typhoon Hanna (international name: Haikui), and the outer rainbands of Typhoon Goring (international name: Saola) which is already outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).
“Asahan po natin ang malalakas na bugso ng hangin na dala nitong outer rainbands nitong si Goring within the next 36 hours,” Pagasa weather specialist Daniel Villamil said.
(We will expect strong gusts brought by the outer rainbands of Typhoon Goring within the next 36 hours.)
“50 to 100 millimeters (mm) of rainfall is also expected in Batanes,” Villamil added.
Meanwhile, Hanna is expected to exit the PAR on Monday afternoon or evening.
The following areas were placed under the corresponding rainfall warnings due to the southwest monsoon:
Yellow rainfall warning (expect 50-100 mm of rain in one to two hours):
- Abra
- Benguet
- Tarlac
- Nueva Ecija
- Pampanga
- Bulacan
- Rizal
- Cavite
- Batangas
Orange rainfall warning (expect 100-200 mm of rain in one to two hours):
- Metro Manila
- Ilocos Region
- Zambales
- Bataan
- Occidental Mindoro
The enhanced southwest monsoon will also bring gusty conditions in the following areas:
- Batanes
- Babuyan islands
- Ilocos Region
- Cordillera Administrative Region
- Nueva Vizcaya
- Zambales
- Pampanga
- Bataan
- Aurora
- Bulacan
- Metro Manila
- Calabarzon
- Mimaropa
- Bicol Region
- Western Visayas
- Northern portion of eastern Visayas
