Emergency exits to be required

By: Anie M. Paujana March 21,2015 - 12:14 AM

Paknaan barangay council will pass an ordinance requiring business establishments within its jurisdiction to provide safety exits for emergencies.

Paknaan Barangay Captain Melaquias Soco said this will minimize the risk of people getting trapped during fire and other calamities.

Soco added that they are planning to install fire hydrants in areas with narrow roads.

Last Wednesday, over 70 houses were razed by fire that displaced 130 families in Zones Talong, Batong and Kamansi.

The members of the Mandaue City Fire Department had difficulty in entering the fire site due to narrow roads and the panicked crowd.

The fire victims were occupying a privately-owned lot rented to them for years.

Residents can still rebuild their houses as they have paid installments toward eventual ownership of their lots.

Soco is closely coordinating with the homeowners as she plans to widen the roads before they rebuild their houses.
