ANOTHER assignment, another day in the office for the defending champions.
Starring Mark Bukiron, Batch 1999-BMC Hospital Systems/Hainanese Delights preserved its immaculate record following a dominating 108-89 win over Batch 1987/2000s-Vancere Toys last Tuesday in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 14th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC Gym.
Bukiron was once again an unstoppable as he erupted for 53 points, the most points scored by any player this season, eclipsing the 52 points he made last Feb. 14 when Batch 1999 edged out Batch 2003-Dimsum Frito.
The win firmed up Batch ’99’s hold of the number spot in the standings at 6-0 (win-loss), stretching its winning streak to 25 dating back to the last season where it completed a 19-game sweep.
Bukiron also had three rebounds, three steals and three assists. Albert Uy added 18 points, Lawrence Lauron pitched in 12 and Earn Saguindel had 11 for Batch 1999.
Harold James Tan fired 39 points and Alfie Miranda Sy scattered 36—impressive 30-point games that failed to save Batch 1987/2000s from tasting its sixth loss in eight games.
In the other game, Batch 1996-Blakeley’s Motorcare snagged its fifth victory with just two defeats after it downed Batch 1995-La Nueva Pharmacy, 92-86.
Shaun Wang listed 24 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and two assists lead Batch 1996, while Rex Allinson, Rogelio Donayre Jr. and Franklin Ong contributed 21, 19 and 17 markers, respectively.
