Mike Plania eyes comeback win on Dec. 18 bout
CEBU CITY, Philippines — Former world-ranked prospect “Magic” Mike Plania eyes a comeback win against newcomer Daniel “Vaquero” Nicolas in one of the undercard bouts of the December 18 major fight card at the The Flash Grand Ballroom in Manila.
Plania, who was once ranked in the world’s top 15 in the super bantamweight division, will take on Nicolas in a six-rounder bout in the fight card featuring a double-header vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) Global title bouts.
It can be recalled that the 26-year-old Plania lost to American Elijah Pierece by a knockout in August this year in Atlanta, Georgia, snapping his back-to-back wins.
This time, Plania is on a comeback journey with his six-rounder duel with Nicolas, a former WBO Oriental Youth featherweight champion.
Plania, a former IBF North American super bantamweight champion, holds a record of 28 wins with 15 knockouts, and three defeats.
His record dwarf’s Nicolas’ 7W-2L, 4KOs slate.
Plania became known in 2022 when he wrested the WBO Oriental Youth title in a grueling eight-rounder bout against Jestine Tesoro via split decision in Calape, Bohol.
Nicolas suffered back-to-back losses in Japan against Kenji Fujita and in Cebu against Renan Portes. Both are non-title bouts.
Besides the Plania-Nicolas showdown, boxing fans have so much to look forward to for the December 18 fight card, especially its double-header main even bouts.
Carl Jammes Martin will fight Thai Chaiwat Buatkrathok for the WBO Global super bantamweight title, while Cebu-based Esneth Domingo takes on fellow Filipino Michael Bravo for the WBO Global flyweight strap.
Nine more undercard bouts are also lined-up for the entire fight card.
