City gets ready for dry spell

By: Melissa Q. Cabahug April 23,2015 - 09:04 AM

The dry season has nothing to do with the tight  supply of rice. No crop damage was reported in Central Visayas so far despite the mild El Niño, agricultural officials said yesterday.

Joelito Baclayon, Cebu city agriculturist, said they will provide upland barangays with small water reservoirs.

Some 160 small water reservoirs worth P10 million will be given to the 12,000 to 14,000 farmers of the 28 upland barangays.

Baclayon said  they will also make a 3-feet deep pond that will serve as the farmers’ source of water. There’s a budget of P5 million for hoses and water drums for the farmers, and the city also allocated P2 million worth of seedlings that grow during hot weather like cassava, ginger and sweet corn.
