THE Cebu city government has lined up activities for National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week.
These activities include job fairs for persons with disabilities (PWDs), PWD Got Talent, a parade and sports events, according to the Cebu City Youth Development Council and the City Social Welfare and Services.
The PWD Got Talent Grand Finals night will be held at the social hall of Cebu City Hall on July 24.
City Councilor Sisinio Andales said that the city government has been implementing various programs for the PWDs, including job fairs.
“We have been requesting companies to hire PWDs for 10 percent of their total workforce,” Andales said.
Andales assured PWDs of the protection against discrimination in the workplace.
Mary Rose Gumila, 32, a PWD from barangay Basak San Nicolas, said the event will give PWDs an opportunity to showcase their abilities.
“We are thankful to the city government for their help,” she said.
Andales said those who will join the PWD Got Talent will get free processing of their birth certificate and notarial services.
The PWD week is held every third week of July. /UP Cebu Intern Mary Claire U. Catado
