The majority of the Korean Electric Power Co.-Salcon Power Corp. (Kepco-SPC) labor union voted to hold a  strike last Friday night at their headquarters.

Regional Director Edmundo Mirasol of the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) said 12 out of 16 supervisory members voted ‘yes’ to the strike.

“They (union) still have to submit the official results on Monday. Then the start of seven-day strike ban. After (strike ban), the union can hold a strike anytime,” he told Cebu Daily News.

The Kepco-SPC 200-megawatt coal-fired power plant in the City of Naga, Cebu supplies power to the Visayas grid, mainly to the electric cooperatives of Cebu, Negros and Bohol.

“No word yet from Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz if she will come back personally to resolve the issue,” Mirasol said.

Another conciliation meeting between the two parties is scheduled on June 30, he said.
