Thoughts on same-sex marriage

By: Ricky Poca July 07,2015 - 07:22 AM

Many have asked me about my opinion on the latest US Supreme Court decision that legalizes same sex- marriage and declares that marriage is a constitutional right.

I  was shocked  by the court decision  because it imposed its view on all US states, disregarding the power and authority of state courts.

I oppose the ruling  but urge all Christians to respect the court decision and treat members of the the LGBT community (lesbian, gay,  bisexual, transgender) with dignity  and understanding.

Remember the court’s decision was made by men and may be considered contrary to the laws of God.

I was also scandalized by the behavior of   LGBT members especially in the US where they held a mock crucifixion and posed the question, “What if Christ is gay?”

But this scenario is not supported by evidence in the Bible.

The speculation is unfounded and an extreme stretch of the imagination.

The Bible is full of provisions against  same-sex marriage.

Please read the Bible to know more about it.

Would same-sex marriage find a place in Philippine laws?

I don’t think so because civil law is quite clear on this matter, defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

Nevertheless, let us treat the LGBT with dignity and respect.

There is no use debating with them because many of them believe that they are above the laws of God.

Look at their behavior after the US Supreme Court decision was released.

They  have become arrogant to the extent of mocking the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

In one US state, there is a move to remove a structure that posts the 10 Commandments in their city hall.

I can’t understand why  people in the USA would  want to remove anything that has got to do with God. Many  people in the US no longer believe in God.

I pray that we, Filipinos, don’t follow and imitate  American society in this regard,  especially in the way  God is absent in so many lives.

God bless us and our people and let us continue to pray and not give up on our Lord.

Many Cebu City residents are elated with the sale of  45 hectares of  reclaimed land at the South Road Properties (SRP).

Finally,  the people  can enjoy the benefits of this project after paying the loan amortization every year and  suffering when the previous administration deprived the public of basic social services because the budget was  focused on the SRP loan payments.

Former mayor Tomas Osmeña came out with a statement lashing Mayor Michael Rama, saying the current administration may just waste the money from the sale proceeds, the way he did the funds Osmeña left the present administration.

Osmeña forgot that there will be a  windfall in the sale of the two SRP lots. One  thousand construction workers will be hired during the development of both properties by the SM-Ayala Consortium and Filinvest, plus hundreds of other new jobs created once the establishments are already operational.

Osmeña also forgot what happened to  Bigfoot Entertainment that was supposed to establish a movie studio in SRP  but folded up.

The sales proceeds will be honestly spent for the public good in  infrastructure projects, financial assistance to  senior citizens and people with disabilities (PWD), housing projects for the poor,  construction of the city medical hospital, and others. City Hall doesn’t operate like a bank that focuses on accumulating assets. It is there to spend the money for  the people that they are sworn to serve.

I don’t know Osmeña’s  intention  when it comes to the SRP. Does he want to just keep the properties  idle—for what? I think  the present administration should be lauded for being  resourceful and for looking after the interests of the people.

Let us not deprive the Cebuanos of  the benefits from the projects they own and paid for.

There are many problems facing Cebu City that require the attention of the local government.

The Rama administration has not wasted its scarce resources but  is known to be generous in providing benefits to the people, especially those in the barangays.

Another thing going for the city is the imminent construction of the Cebu City Medical Center.

This would make the poor so happy.

They can look forward to a world-class hospital that will offer  affordable medical services  and attention to the health concerns of the poor.
