Cebuanos help FEU score one over Ateneo

By: Jonas N. Panerio September 08,2015 - 02:52 PM

Cebuano forward Roger Ray Pogoy had a fantastic season debut as he scored 19 points to lead the Far Eastern University Tamaraws to an 88-64 victory over the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the 78th UAAP men’s basketball tournament on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Pogoy, the Talisay City-native who once starred for the University of Cebu, sizzled from beyond the arc as he made four triples to fuel FEU’s rout of their more-fancied foes.

Pogoy was not the only Cesafi alumnus to do well as former Cebu Eastern College center Raymar Jose submitted a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Monbert Arong and Ron Dennison, former stalwarts of Southwestern University and the University of the Visayas, respectively, combined to score nine points, four rebounds and five assists as FEU seeks to finally break through to the title after falling short to National University last season.

Kiefer Ravena led Ateneo with 25, but  came up with zilch in the final frame. The much-ballyhooed debut of Cebuano guard Jerie Pingoy was a dud as the former UC guard went scoreless.
