A pod of dolphins greets tourists in Limasawa Island
CONSOLACION, Cebu – Imagine being welcomed by dolphins on your way to an island getaway.
That’s exactly what happened during Elaine Alcala’s trip: spotting a pod of dolphins as they made their way to Limasawa Island in Southern Leyte.
Alcala said the experience felt surreal, especially since it was her first time seeing dolphins up close.
“It felt unreal. It was my first time seeing a pod of dolphins up close, and some were even swimming under the boat. They were so cute,” she shared.
She added, “We were so lucky because we were only on our way to Limasawa — it wasn’t really part of the itinerary.”
Rare dolphin sighting
According to their boatman, dolphin sightings in the area are not guaranteed and depend on timing and sea conditions.
“He even said that being that close was a rare moment,” Alcala added.
The video quickly went viral on TikTok, with netizens sharing their amazement over the unexpected encounter.

One user commented, “Went there recently but instead of dolphins, pawikan amo kasabay. Limasawa is really a gem gyud.”

Others also reminded the public to care for and protect marine life.
“See people, this is what nature will show you, for free! No charge! If you care more about the environment,” one wrote.

Beyond the viral moment, Limasawa Island continues to showcase its natural beauty, known for its clear waters, rich marine life, and historical significance as the site of the first Catholic Mass in the Philippines.
