P160-M for ‘world class’ CICC

January 10,2014 - 03:18 PM

The upgrading of the Cebu International Convention Center will need about P160 million for it to meet international standards.

In a meeting today, Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III and Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes agreed to explore a public private partnership (PPP) scheme for the facility which will need an estimate of P160 million for an overhaul of its current features.
A management committee was also proposed with the rehabilitation targeted to start on February.

The facility is seen as the potential venue for the meetings for the APEC summit on 2015 and the International Eucharistic Congress on 2016.

The 7.2 magnitude earthquake on October 15 and the aftershocks damaged the building including the back canopies, comfort rooms, function rooms, summit and exhibition halls, glass panels as well as the water and electrical systems.

Initially repairs was pegged to cost about P70 billion, but the Capitol thought of improving the facility to be able to accommodate heads of state simultaneously.
