DESPITE THE bad weather brought by tropical depression “Onyok” in recent days, the tournament of the Rapid Chess Club dubbed “Rapid Chess Club Open Chess Tournament” will still kick off today at Elizabeth Mall.

Tournament organizer and the FIDE arbiter Felix Poloyapoy said they were initially expecting around a hundred participants but due to the bad weather,  they are now only expecting less than 80 competitors in the seven-round Swiss system format competition.

Rapid Chess Club had several open and kiddies’s wood pushing this year, which drew some of the best non-rated wood pushers here in Cebu.

In this tournament, special prizes will once again be given to the kiddies’ participants while there will also be raffle prizes for all of the competitors.

So far, National Master (NM) Leonardo Alidani confirmed he will compete in today’s tournament.

Registration will start at 1:00 p.m. at the Elizabeth

Registration fee is pegged at P150 for the kiddies’ participants and P200 for the regular wood pushers, inclusive snacks and refreshments during the competition.
