BEWARE of overeating or you may end up celebrating the holidays in a hospital, health officials said.
Regional Director Jaime Bernadas of the Department of Health (DOH-7) said those with hypertension and high cholesterol levels should not forget to take their medicine.
“Keep your medicine with you at all times. Don’t indulge in lechon (roasted pig). If you cant avoid it, just limit your intake,” Bernadas said.
He also advised the public to take vitamins and eat more fruits and vegetables.
Avoid drinking liquor or be moderate in your intake.
“If you have time to rest then that is better,” he said.
With parties and family feasts being a part of the yuletide celebration, the DOH-7 chief said proper food storage and handling is very important to avoid spoilage and contamination.
Bernadas said they are also advising parents not to give money to children so they won’t be tempted to buy firecrackers.
He said all hospitals in the region are on code white to attend to firecracker-injured victims.
A victim of firecracker blasts should immediately wash the wound with clean running water until all visible dirt and gunpowder residue is removed.
Immediate treatment is needed at the nearest health facility for proper medical attention.
