DESPITE recording a negative gross reserve of 13 megawatts (MW) for the Visayas yesterday, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) assured that there will be no outages in the grid.
On its Twitter account, NGCP posted a power situation outlook for January 6, based on data computed from January 5. The outlook initially predicted that while the Visayas would have an available capacity of 1,627 megawatts (MW) while peak demand would be at 1,640 MW, generating a negative gross reserve for the region.
A check on the agency’s website at 6 p.m. yesterday showed that the gross reserve decreased even further to negative 42 MW. Available capacity decreased to 1,564 MW, while system peak was at 1,606 MW.
NGCP–Central Visayas spokesperson Betty Martinez said that while a plant unit tripped, the negative gross reserve was augmented by the Luzon grid through the Leyte line.
Currently, the increase in demand for energy in the Visayas is “not significant,” she said.
