THE RAIN OR SHINE Elasto Painters continued their resurgence and won their third straight game after edging the Mahindra Enforcers, 103-98, in the first game of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup last night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

In the second game, the Junemar Fajardo-less San Miguel Beer ended another streak when it defeated the Alaska Aces, 116-96, in a rematch of the Philippine Cup Finals.

The win halted Alaska’s five-game streak but the Aces still share the top spot with Meralco at 5-2 (win-loss). San Miguel also arrested Meralco’s five-game streak two weeks ago.

Although import Tyler Wilkerson had another monster game for San Miguel with 32 points, but it was Chris Ross who was adjudged best player for his all-around performance, finishing with 14 points, six rebounds and 12 assists.

The Elasto Painters, meanwhile, improved to 4-3 (win-loss) despite losing head coach Yeng Guiao, who was ejected in the second period for incurring his second technical foul. It was also their second straight win with new import Dennard Charlo.

Rain or Shine got some much-needed firepower from their bench with Cebuano big man JR Quinahan scoring 19 points. Left-handed sniper Jeff Chan and Jericho Cruz each had 18 points to help fuel the

Elasto Painters to the victory. Charlo had trouble finding the hoop and shot just 3-of-12 but still flirted with a triple-double of 16 points, eight boards and eight assists.

Mahindra got 28 from import Augustus Gilchrist and 20 from LA Revilla and fell to 3-4 for this conference.
