A man suspected of gun smuggling was arrested in Barangay Cansaga, Consolacion town, northern Cebu early morning yesterday.
Nine .45 caliber pistols, five .38 caliber revolvers, a .38 caliber pistol and magazines amounting to P131,000 were seized from Lindo Lendio Cuevas, said Senior
Supt. Marlon Tayaba, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Central Visayas (CIDG-7).
Tayaba said they had Cuevas under surveillance for two weeks before the buy-bust operation was conducted.
Cuevas denied the allegation, saying he was asked by a man to drive the public utility jeepney where a bag containing the firearms was loaded.
Tayaba said Cuevas’s cohort escaped, bringing the P15,000 cash used as buy-bust money.
Tayaba said the suspects ordered firearms amounting to P100,000 from Danao City.
The CIDG-7 chief said there was a possibility that the firearms would be sold to individuals who might be hired by some politicians.
Since January, CIDG-7 has seized 119 loose firearms.
