SHORTLY after arriving from Ormoc where they placed second in an invitational tournament, the University of the Visayas Green Lancers plunged right back into the action and thwarted the reigning Cesafi champions, University of San Carlos Warriors, 73-67, in the 1st Barangay Tabunok Inter-Collegiate Basketball League on Saturday night at the Tabunok Sports Complex in Talisay.
The Green Lancers turned things around in the third canto, where they outhustled and outclassed the Warriors, 19-10, to surge in front, 51-45, after trailing at halftime, 32-35.
Promising big man Mike Macion led the Lancers in scoring with 14 points while “The Hitman” Jun Manzo, who was back in harness after missing out on the Ormoc tournament, added 10.
USC got 26 from left-handed big man William McAloney but got little else from the rest of the Warriors as the offense sputtered. One-time Cesafi Mythical Five member Victor Rabat struggled to find his range and managed just three points.
