CEC B-PTT/Roadstar and Batch 1995/New Millennium Hardware displayed grace under tremendous pressure to emerge victories in separate do-or-die games in the quarterfinal round of the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 15th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC Gym.
The fifth-seed CEC B successfully overcame a twice-to-win disadvantage by nipping fourth-ranked CEC E, 84-59, while the second seed Batch ‘95 exploited its twice-to-beat incentive to the hilt dispatched seventh-seed Batch 1998/Kaking.
CEC B and Batch ‘95 thus advanced to the best-of-three semifinal round.
In the semis, CEC B will have a gigantic task of ending Batch 1999/Southchoice’s two-year dominance, while Batch ‘95 will take on CEC-A.
Kenneth Ang scored 16 points, Philip Lua wound up with 11 and Rex Allinson donated 10 to help CEC B duplicate its 71-52 Game 1 victory.
Norman Lopez tallied 19 points, while Timothie Tan pitched in 16 markers.
Batch ‘95, on the other hand, bounced back from a 74-84 Game 1 loss behind Donald Anthony Ting, Dean Dy Teves and Pete Ian, who scattered 20, 16 and 14 markers, respectively.
Eric So paced Batch ‘98 with 15 markers.
