Parents, officials told to help clean up for anti-dengue drive
PARENTS and school officials were reminded ahead of tomorrow’s opening of classes to keep their surroundings clean to prevent schoolchildren from contracting dengue.
Outgoing City Health Officer Dr. Daisy Villa said she met with city division representatives of the Department of Education (DepEd), sanitary inspectors and some barangay officials for the cleanup of schools and community surroundings.
“There is no other way to fight dengue like cleaning the surroundings. If we don’t clean our surroundings, then mosquitoes will lay their eggs,” she said.
Villa said all government agencies should help in fighting against dengue.
Last May 21, Villa said the City Health Office conducted larviciding in barangays with the highest incidence of dengue cases.
In January to May this year, Barangay Guadalupe topped Cebu City with 85 cases followed by Apas with 40, Tisa 39, Mabolo 35, Talamban 34, Lahug 33, Labangon 32, Basak San Nicolas 29, Quiot Pardo 28 and Pardo 24.
Villa said Cebu City recorded 877 dengue cases with seven confirmed deaths caused by dengue during this period.
