SIXTEEN families were affected by the fire that broke out yesterday noon in Sitio Luray I, Barangay Poblacion, Toledo City.

The fire allegedly started at the house of Vicente Fabroa, a vegetable vendor in the city.

SFO3 Julius Dagatan, Toledo City fire investigator, said they received the alarm at 12:05 p.m. and declared the fire under control around 2 p.m. The fire was totally put out around 4 p.m.

As of 5:35 p.m yesterday, the city’s   social welfare office  recorded 14 houses as totally damaged and two others as partially burned.
Sixteen families or 74 individuals were affected.

The amount of damage caused by the fire was still being assessed by the Toledo City Fire Station. Nobody was reported injured during the incident.

Dagatan said the fire occurred  near the schools. Classes at Luray II National High School, South City Central School and North Central School were temporarily suspended to evacuate the students.

Mae Tacandong, City Social Welfare and Development head, said they offered the Marcelo Barba Sports Complex as temporary evacuation for the fire victims, but only one family expressed interest to stay at the sports complex.

Tacandong said they have provided the families with six kilos of rice, cans of sardines and beef loaf, plastic mats and plastic plates.
