ONE CEBUANO earned a ticket to the Subaru Palm Challenge grand finals in Singapore after winning the Cebu-Leg of the event last Sept. 13 at the Ayala Center Cebu’s The Terraces.
Donn Michael Yap, a 24-year-old call center agent, logged a new Cebu leg record by clocking 12 hours, 51 minutes and 10 seconds to emerge the winner out of the 120 participants who joined the event organized by Motor Image Pilipinas, the authorized distributor of Subaru vehicles in the Philippines. Among the participants he defeated was last year’s Cebu leg winner, Joberth Estrera.
Yap will be going to Singapore together with other winners from Davao and Manila for the grand finals slated this November. At stake there is a brand-new Subaru XV crossover.
The Subaru Palm Challenge is an endurance test that requires contestants to keep their palms on a parked Subaru vehicle for the longest possible time.
Last year’s grand winner was 43-year-old Singaporean real estate agent Yusman Wright, who logged a total time of 75 hours and 1 minute. Filipino Alex Neblasca managed to finish third, lasting for around 64 hours.
The next challenge will be held at the Bonifacio High Street in Manila this Saturday. The eight winners there together with Yap and Roque Moncada, the Davao winner, will make up the 10-man Philippine Team to Singapore.
