In order to monitor the status and implementation of approved ordinances, the Cebu City Council has created an oversight committee yesterday.

It will be headed by Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella as chairman and Councilor Alvin Dizon as vice chairman.

Councilors Sisinio Andales, Eugenio Gabuya Jr., Hanz Abella, Mary Ann Delos Santos and Margarita Osmena will serve as members.

Dizon, in a privilege speech, during the council’s regular session yesterday lamented how several ordinances passed by the council remain unimplemented. He cited as an example City Ordinance 2259 which restructures the loans and extending the terms of payment to a maximum of 10 years for the beneficiaries of the Slum Improvement and Resettlement (SIR) Program.

The committee will be meeting every three months and will be inviting representatives from the executive department and civil society organizations to shed light and submit reports on the implementation of city ordinances.

Yesterday, the council also requested the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) secretariat to make an inventory of all ordinances approved during the 12th and 13th City Council.
