BATCH 19 80S/90S/2011-Koi Herbal rode on a strong first half attack to get rid of Batch 2005-Headway Motorcycle Hub, 75-69, and stay unbeaten in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 14th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Saturday at the CEC Gym.
Batch 1980S/90S2011 closed the first half with a 42-33 lead, sending Batch 2005 wobbling the rest of the way to nail its third win in as many games.
The only other unbeaten squad in the 14-team field is defending champion Batch 1999-BMC Hospital Systems/ Hainanese Delights, which also sports a 3-0 (win-loss) card.
Stephen Tan was the top scorer for the winning team with 23 points, while Paul Cabellon and Raymond Sypongco added 15 and 11 markers, respectively. Also giving significant contribution was Joel Chan, who tallied 14 rebounds, seven points three assists and a steal.
Philip Lua finished with 22 points, Kent Uy netted 12 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block, while Jerome Ang scored 12 but Batch 2005 still tasted its second defeat in three outings.
Meanwhile, Paul Martin Gabatan came up with another stellar performance to power a streaking Batch 1990s/2001-AJL Surplus to a 65-52 trashing of Batch 1997-Solane iStyle.
Scoring a combined 54 points in the team’s first two games, Gabatan exploded for personal conference-high 34 points and also hauled down 18 rebounds while tallying four assists, two steals and a block to lead Batcg 90s/2001’s second straight win after dropping its first assigment.
Ryan Racal backed Gabatan with 12 points.
Bryan Labus piled up 12 points and Aubrey Jones Ibones collected 12 points and 10 rebounds in Batch 97’s second loss in four games.
