A PASSENGER vessel bound for Cagayan de Oro City ran aground at Pier 1 in Cebu City last Friday night.

Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Cebu Station Commander Agapito Bibat said the bow of Lite Ferry 8 got stuck due to low tide.

“The trip was cancelled as the vessel had to be inspected by the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina-7),” Bibat told Cebu Daily News.

The vessel, which can accommodate up to 996 passengers, had only 41 people onboard, including passengers and crew headed by Master Mariner Sergio Gerodias, at the time of the incident. The passengers were brought back to the pier by two tugboats.

The vessel has been refloated on the same day around 11 p.m. when high tide occurred.
