REHABILITATION of the Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD)’s pipe support located under the old Mandaue Mactan Bridge had been completed.
Completion of the P5.9 million project will already assure families under the bridge of their safety while the bridge rehabilitation project is ongoing, said Engr. Roy Basar of the MCWD Project Management Office.
“We are thankful that the pipe support repair was already completed and it did not cause any traffic or affect the ongoing bridge repair as earlier raised by some sectors,” Basar said in a press statement.
Project contractor, Jegma Construction, is expected to turn over the project after final inspection.
MCWD funded the pipe support project that covered 16 inch pipes located under the old Mandaue-Mactan bridge. It started last April 1 and was completed in 120 calendar days.
It included the removal of the old pipe support, repair of rusted surface, painting and rust proofing of the pipe surface and installation of new support that was attached to the existing concrete sidewalk of the bridge.
Alma Jo Alonzo, Jegma Construction vice president, said it is their first time to do a pipe support rehabilitation. Their biggest challenge was on the procurement of materials that were fabricated by a Manila-based supplier.
She said Jegma personnel worked six days a week for more than eight hours every day to meet the Aug. 1 deadline for work completion.
MCWD’s pipeline supplies water to almost 17,000 households and commercial establishments in Mactan island.
