JUN Kidlat of Lapu-Lapu City emerged the best wood pusher in the recently concluded Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) Monthly Qualifying Tournament for August last Sunday at the Robinson’s Galleria Cebu.
Kidlat finished the five-round Swiss system format competition of Group B with 4.0 points and 16 tie break points to edge Cepca president, Jerry Maratas, who also had 4.0 points but had a lower tie break score of 14.5.
Rounding off the top three was Manuel Abucay, who also scored 4.0 points but only had 13.5 tie break points.
Meanwhile, Cepca official Jun Olis said that due to the limited number of competitors in Group A, they decided to halt the qualifying competition and will proceed to the grand finals on December with the seven qualifiers.
