THE SUZUKI Football Club showed its readiness for its debut in the 18th Aboitiz Cup men’s open division as it ruled the San Roque Football Cup over the weekend in Mandaue City.

The newly formed team won over reigning Aboitiz Cup men’s open champion Leylam FC, 1-0, in the semifinals then escaped Barili FC, 3-2, via penalty shootout to secure the men’s open title.

It was a revenge of sorts for Suzuki FC against Leylam FC, which won the men’s open title against them last Aug. 21 in the first Mr. Coffee Football Cup at the Don Bosco Technology Center.

Suzuki FC was formed last May and the team is composed of local footballers, some former varsity players.

The 18th Aboitiz Football Cup will be unveiled this Sunday at the Cebu City Sports Center. Competition proper starts Sept. 10 in various venues around Cebu.
