Alay Lakad in Lapu-Lapu City raised almost P800,000 cash donations from the participants.

Around 30,000 people from the different sectors joined Lapu-Lapu City’s Alay Lakad 2016 for a cause, which raised almost P800,000 in cash donations last Sunday.
Participants from the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, Philippine Air Force, Philippine Navy, Mepz companies, malls and other private companies joined the yearly event to help raise funds for the Alay Lakad Foundation’s scholarship program.
The participants were divided into three divisions; and they assembled in three different areas, such as in the PUJ terminal on GY Dela Serna Street, in Airport Road and in Barangay Basak.
The participants started walking at 5 a.m. from their respective assembly areas to the city hall grounds, where the program was held.
Songs and dances were presented and donor companies were given the chance to speak and be recognized.
Awards were also given to the biggest delegation, most disciplined, most lively and most colorful groups and the biggest donors.
The Alay Lakad 2016 with the theme “Tuloy ang Hakbang Para sa Pagbabago at Kaunlaran ng mga Kabataan” gathered a total of P796,000 cash donations from the different individuals and private companies, said Ermelita Degamo, head of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Office.
The biggest delegation awards went to Lapu-Lapu City College (first), Konka (2nd) and Urban Poor Federation (3rd).
The most disciplined groups were the Philippine Air Force (first), Bureau of Fire Protection (second) and the Materials Recovery Facility group (third).
The most colorful contingents were the City Mayor’s Office (first), City Health Office (second) and the Clean and Green Office (third).
The biggest donors went to the Department of Education (first), Philippine National Police (second) and Daycare Workers Federation (third).
Lapu-Lapu City Councilor Flaviano Hiyas was recognized as the biggest individual donor.
Mayor Paz Radaza expressed her gratitude to all the participants.
In her speech, she revealed that based on the records from the Social Welfare Office, the city has already produced several graduates through the funds raised from Alay Lakad, which started several years ago.
“We continue knocking on your hearts to help the less privileged and help them achieve their dreams,” said Radaza.
